This project involved internal and external refurbishment/extension of SE8 Gallery (formerly the Museum of Installation), to provide more versatile and additional display and private view space.
Multi-purpose rooms were created to the rear with walk-on rooflights forming a visual connection to a new outdoor exhibition space, enclosed by a hit-and-miss screen. The screen concept revolved around various parameters such as solar patterns, and creating a secure and private enclosure while maintaining a sense of permeability.
The front would be retained as the main gallery and reception space, with versatile display and ancillary spaces towards the rear. The external areas could be flexibly used for public functions / exhibitions, or for private / staff purposes.
