Punctured House

Haringey, London

The modern infill extension punctures the fabric of the original Victorian house to give a hint of the new space and structure. The sloping strip rooflight and modern kitchen elements are visible from the front and rear reception rooms and allow light to flood through to the darker rooms.

This project also mitigates a common drawback of the terraced house, in that the key living space in the front reception is often inherently detached from the garden at the rear. New joinery elements form a continuous line of sight from front to back, guiding the eye from the old house through to the garden. A shed concealed within fencing aligns with the joinery internally through frameless glazing, extending that visual delineation into the yard.
