Garden House

Walthamstow, London

With limited garden space for an extension, the idea was to ‘extend the garden into the extension’ – the garden and extension would read as one continuous space.

An undulating green roof encourages climbers to grow up from the planting beds onto the new structure, with the undulating forms repeating internally on the ceilings that jut up towards tall rooflights, each with a planting shelf for strong-of-pearl plants to cascade down from. Sage coloured joinery add to this verdant feel inside and out, complemented by copper tones and polished pink plaster ceiling.

The black-stained fencing is extended onto the cladding as well as onto the back wall of the extension, giving the sense that the garden actually finishes at the rear reception. Ultra slim glazing frames further strengthen the inside-outside connection, with stone paving continuing seamlessly to the exterior across a flush threshold.
